Fayetteville Cycling Social

With all the cycling related activity and enthusiasm going on in the area its time to get organized…. or at least get together, ride bikes, be social, and have fun.

The plan is to rally at the Fayetteville courthouse and ride out to Sedona at 7pm for dinner and hopefully get the ball rolling on a local cycling club….

Tell everyone that has a bike! Lets pack the courthouse lawn!

Public Meeting for Stacked Loop Trail System

The National Park Service will be holding a public meeting about stacked loop trail systems in Craig Branch and Garden Ground areas of the New River Gorge. There will also be discussion about the potential impacts of bicycles on new and existing trails within the park. This is your chance to voice your opinion and see what new and exciting things are going on in the park!

If you cant make the meeting there are other ways to get involved:

The International Mountain Bicycling Association is coming to West Virginia. Kelly and Collins Bishop of the Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crew will be in New River Gorge National River for a Trailbuilding School. The Crews teach “sustainable” trail building, which means building trails that last a long time and require minimal maintenance. This helps reduce trail damage, protects the environment, and enhances visitor enjoyment.

Registration for Trailbuilding school is limited - please register with Jamie Fields by phone (304.465.6527) or e-mail.

Schedule:

Friday:
8:00 AM - 4:30 PM: Trailbuilding School Classroom session and field session at New River Gorge Headquarters in Glen Jean, WV

Saturday:
8:30 AM - 4:30 PM: Trail work day. Meet at New River Gorge Headquarters
8:00 PM: Social at Pies ‘n Pints in Fayetteville, WV

Sunday:
9:00 AM: Group ride meeting at Fayetteville Town Park trailhead

Fayetteville Cyclo-cross - Round 2 of the WVCX Series

Get you cross or mountain bike ready! Because Sunday is Fayetteville Cyclo-cross Round #2 of the West Virginia Cyclocross Series!

We just finished up the final touches for Sunday’s cyclocross race and you better believe its gonna be a tough one! This course has everything you would expect to see in a cross race; fast grass sections, a little pavement, tons of off camber stuff, two sets of barriers, and lots and lots of fast twisty sections.

Registration starts around 9:00am on Sunday and the course will be ready to pre- ride. We encourage everyone to come and check out the event whether your racing or not. Cyclo-cross is very spectator friendly and cheering and/or heckling the racers is part of the fun. All riders and all bikes are welcome. Disc brakes, carbon this, carbon that are all fine but NO bar ends please..

At long last we have our new website. We plan to make this site a hub for all things cycling in the Mountain State. Expect regular updates with trip reports, cycling news, gear reviews and race recaps. This weekend shop owner Andy Forron is heading to the Single Speed Worlds and the our Race Team will be competing in the WV Mountain Bike Association Championship, so check back next week for a full report.
